SRA Objectives
Preserving our Heritage
Today Somers is a very homogenous village with a good balance between permanent residents and those that holiday here away from the bustle of metropolitan Melbourne.
All age groups are represented in our community and as the Western Port area develops more families are finding their way to Somers as a permanent residence.
With growth and development come the challenges of preserving the fabric of our community and we are ever vigilant to see that inappropriate development does not intrude on our Green Wedge protected village.
Change is inevitable and our challenge is to monitor and manage change as best we can for the long term benefit of present and future Somers residents.
Objectives
The SRA's stated objectives are :
- To preserve the character of the coastal village of Somers, and to support proposals to enhance that character.
- To investigate concerns of residents about matters which may affect their wellbeing or lifestyles.
- To support proposals toward preservation of the natural environment, in balance with the needs of the community.
- To examine actions of Authorities, organisations or companies in matters affecting residents.
- To investigate proposals by Local, State or Federal Governments affecting Somers.
- To represent all Somers residents in community matters
To fulfil these objectives we have regular dialogue with the Mornington Peninsula Shire and discussions with our State and Federal members.
